A complete method for becoming the equine photographer you want to be.

The method

Create · Edit · Build

Great equine photography is built on multiple skills. It’s learning how to understand horses, light and your camera. It’s developing your own creative vision and editing style. And for those who want to take their passion further, it’s learning how to turn that creativity into a professional photography business.

The Equine Photography Method brings all of those pieces together.

It’s more than learning how to use your camera

Becoming a photographer is a journey.

When you first pick up a camera, you might be thinking about settings, sharpness and whether you’re doing everything “right.” Then something changes.

You start noticing light differently. You become more intentional about locations, composition and connection. You learn how horses communicate. You discover what you love to photograph and how you want your images to feel.

Eventually, you stop simply taking photographs. You start creating them.

And for some photographers, that passion grows into something even bigger: a brand, a business and a career doing what they love.

The Equine Photography Method was created to support you throughout that journey.

Create

Master the art of equine photography.

Everything starts with learning how to create a powerful photograph by understanding what you’re doing and why. Learn how to work confidently with your camera, understand light, choose locations, create strong compositions and guide horses and their humans naturally. But equine photography asks for something extra. You’re working with an animal with its own emotions, reactions and boundaries. Understanding the horse is just as important as understanding your camera.

Inside CREATE, you’ll learn about:

Camera settings and equipment

Light and location

Composition and perspective

Horse behaviour and body language

Posing horses and humans

Connection and storytelling

Planning and running photoshoots

Working through challenging situations

The goal isn’t to create another version of me.

It’s to help you become more of you. I can teach you how I photograph horses. I can show you how I work with light, how I edit my images and how I built my photography business. But I don’t want you to create photographs that look exactly like mine. I want you to understand the foundations, experiment, discover what you love and eventually create work that people recognize as yours. Because technique can be taught.

Your vision is what makes your photography yours.

Photographing horses is different.

They move and communicate. They have good days and difficult days. A beautiful equine photograph requires more than photography knowledge. You need to understand the animal standing in front of your camera. Knowing when a horse is relaxed. Recognizing tension. Understanding expression and body language. Knowing when to wait, when to change your approach and when not to ask for more.

That understanding is woven throughout The Equine Photography Method.

Because beautiful photographs should never come at the expense of the horse.

About the founder

Created from more than a decade behind the camera.

The Equine Photography Method was created by professional equine photographer and educator Eliane van Schaik.

For more than 15 years, I’ve photographed horses and their humans, built my own photography business and taught other photographers the skills I learned along the way.

I’ve taught thousands of photographers through my online education, spoken about equine photography at major photography and equestrian events and shared my expertise as a guest judge on Dutch television.

Everything inside The Equine Photography Method comes from real experience.

The things that worked and the things that didn’t. The lessons that I have learned. And the knowledge I wish I had when I first started photographing horses.
